Work Experience

project name

Software Engineer - Visa (June 2019 - present)

I am currently a software engineer at Visa. I am part of the Visa Cloud Platform team focused on DevOps automation. Our team builds products to help streamline the work done by solution designers and system architects. We are heavily focused on building and automating Visa's cloud infrastructure. Some tools that I work with include Angular, TypeScript, Java, Spring, Mongo, MySQL.

project name

Systems Engineer Intern - Visa (May 2018 - August 2018)

I had the amazing opportunity to intern as a full-stack software engineer for Visa. I worked on a web application focused on disaster recovery. During my time at the internship, I quickly adapted to technologies that I hadn't worked with before, including AngularJS and SpringBoot with Java. While working at Visa, I got a taste of software engineering in a team and grew accustomed to Agile software development.

project name

Student Assistant - Institute of Behavioral Science (October 2015 - December 2017)

Letter of recommendation from Jane Menken

I worked as a student assistant at the Institute of Behavioral Science and Natural Hazards Center. I coordinated with professors and researchers on a variety of projects. My responsibilities included projects for researchers and general secretarial duties. I utilized my ability to code with Professor Menken and helped her clean and filter data from over a thousand surveys. Her comments on my work can be viewed in the letter of recommendation linked above.

Courtesy Clerk - King Soopers (Summer 2014)

My first work experience was in high school as a bagger and cashier at my local grocery store. At King Soopers, I bagged groceries, handled the cash register, and provided friendly customer service. I was awarded the fastest and most efficient cashier/bagger award during my time there.

Projects

project name

Saucy Conch Shell - Twitter Bot

I wanted to test the Twitter API with a simple bot so I created a script that automates replies whenever a user @'s the bot. It's functions exactly like a Magic 8 Ball. When the user tweets @ the bot with a yes/no question, the bot will reply with a random answer. (It is no longer running as I don't have the Raspberry Pi set up)

project name

Tesla Price Script

I'm a big fan of Tesla and their push for eco-friendly vehicles. I eventually want to own a Model 3 so I wrote a python script to scrape the Tesla website, look for any price changes, and automatically email myself if a price for any of the configurations has changed. I configured a cronjob to run the script once a day.

PlayerUnknown's BattleGrounds - Data Mining

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a battle royale game that will pit 100 players against each other. In this data mining project, we sought out to optimize player choices during the early, middle and late game to increase the likelihood of survival. We focused on less populating landing areas, most favorable weapons, weapon statistics, and areas to avoid. You can read about it more here.

Honduras - Research Assistant

During my time at the Institute of Behavioral Science, I contributed to a project about the impacts of decentralized health services in Honduras. The lead researchers, funded by the US National Science Foundation, went to Honduras and surveyed household data on the impacts of decentralized health services. There were small errors and mismatches between households because each household could have had up to 3 surveys. To correct the mismatches, I created a script in Visual Basic for Applications to parse and identify unmatched, missing, and erroneous data.

Organizations

project name

Vietnamese Student Association at the University of Colorado Boulder

I was a member of the Vietnamese Student Association at Boulder during my entire undergraduate career. While attending college, I felt the need to connect with peers who shared the same cultural values and upbringing. During my time with the association, I have made professional connections, friends, and roommates. Activities included fundraising, culture shows, cabin retreats, and other fun events.

project name

CU Boulder Dragon Boat Team

I joined the CU Dragon Boat partly due to my involvement in the Vietnamese Student Association. During my summers in college, I would spend weekends practicing at the CU Recreational Center with my team to prepare for Colorado's Dragon Boat Festival. Our team regularly placed 1st or second in the intermediate races.
